career

Weider Germany GmbH is a medium-sized company in the fitness industry based in Hamburg and is one of the leading brands in sports nutrition. Based on almost 90 years of experience, we are dedicated to developing innovative products in the fitness sector and distributing them worldwide in over 50 countries. The quality of our products and their benefit to athletes in achieving their individual goals are our top priorities.

Head of Procurement (gn)

As part of the management team, you'll work directly with the Managing Director of Weider Germany GmbH, and closely with our R&D/Quality, Finance and Sales teams. Depending on the results you achieve here, there is a realistic path toward a broader European remit over time.

What you'll own

  • Build and lead the strategic procurement function for Weider Germany GmbH.
  • Manage our key suppliers and contract manufacturers — commercial terms, payment terms, minimum order quantities, trade credit insurance.
  • Drive cost optimization across our existing supplier and contract manufacturer base.
  • Lay the foundation for sourcing across the full supply chain.
  • Track global sourcing markets and price trends relevant to our categories (e.g. whey protein, creatine).
  • Provide functional guidance to our existing purchasing coordinator.
  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Sales and Finance on procurement-relevant decisions — formulation, certification, forecasting, margin.

Your first year

  • First 90 days: review our existing supplier and contract manufacturer base, current processes and contract terms.
  • Build the foundation for sourcing across the whole supply chain: target categories, sourcing strategy, supply chain setup.
  • Introduce a structured supplier evaluation framework — quality, certification, capacity, reliability, price, strategic fit.
  • Improve commercial terms with existing suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Establish transparent, fact-based reporting on procurement cost and savings.

What you bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Food Science, or a related field; a Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Several years of experience in strategic procurement or category management, ideally with leadership responsibility.
  • Experience managing contract manufacturers — not only classic goods purchasing.
  • Industry background in dietary supplements, food, or a comparably regulated environment.
  • A track record of building or diversifying supplier networks.
  • Confidence negotiating commercial terms, payment terms, MOQs and trade credit insurance.
  • A structured, data-driven way of working; strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Willingness to travel within Germany and occasionally across Europe to visit suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Fluent business English and German.
  • A hands-on mindset — you're building this function, not inheriting one.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Spanish language skills.
  • Contacts with contract manufacturers or suppliers in Eastern or Southern Europe.
  • Experience in post-merger integration or international group structures.
  • Experience with Claude, ChatGPT or other.

What we offer

  • Real responsibility in an international environment.
  • Direct collaboration with management and international decision-makers.
  • Room to shape a new function and its processes from the ground up — with a realistic path toward a broader European remit, based on results.
  • Flat hierarchies and short decision-making paths.
  • Modern work equipment and flexible working hours.
  • 30 days of vacation.
  • HVV subsidy for public transport in Hamburg.
  • Exclusive employee discounts.
